OLYMPICS 2012 Comes To Surbiton

Detective Agency staff donned their flags giant blow up hands and hats to help support the British Olympic team as it passed through Kingston. We all took an hour off to join the crowds in Surbiton and nearby Hook Parade to see the Olympic flame on a sunny Tuesday Morning.
It was a great atmosphere with music and cheering.  The roads were blocked in a rolling road block fashion when the flame left Hook library on its way to Kingston town centre. There was a little congestion but, as far as we could see, no major disruption,

In-fact well organised. There was a heavy police presence both in and out of uniform including armed officers, who did their best to keep out of site.

Local business all took advantage of the occasion offering free samples and passing out leaflets.  I would say this was a beneficial to the local businesses that made the most of the situation.

I do have one or two gripes, although not big ones! Local businesses were NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE OLYMPIC LOGO even the rings. This was to protect sponsors of the games, McDonalds, coca cola and so on. It seems that these London 2012 games are heavily over sponsored and regulated. In a nutshell the local borough or the sponsors don’t want any small or local business to profit from these games despite the disruption to their businesses.  For me this over regulation and ruling regarding a simple picture of the Olympic rings and the London 2012 logo, has somewhat dampened the true spirit of what the games portray. It should be an event we can all get involved with and use to expand our businesses without fear of legal actions.

All that aside, The local atmosphere was fantastic, the weather was perfect and a bit of community spirit is always welcomed. Detective Agency wishes team GB the best of luck! C’mon Team GB!
